In My Record Collection, we dig down to the bottom of musicians’ souls to find out what the most treasured parts of their record collection are. This week, it’s the turn of Evanescence drummer Will Hunt. Let’s see what he chooses…
The first record I ever bought with my own money was…
“Kiss Alive II! I was 7 and in 2nd grade, I think. Kiss cards had been circulating in my class like some type of contraband and I, of course, had several, as well as an 8-Track of a K-Tel compilation with Rock-N-Roll All Night, and I was a fan. I just remember my dad taking me to the record store near the airport in Kansas City when he picked me up for my Christmas visit with him.”
“The album had just come out and there was a huge display in the store for the album, and as everyone who’s seen the cover knows, it’s insane looking! My dad gave me $10 as an early Christmas gift and told me I could get whatever I wanted. Technically it was my money, and money well spent it was. It pretty much defined what I wanted to do with my life from that moment.”
The record that made me want to be in a band was…
“It was Motley Crue’s Shout At The Devil. I already knew I wanted to rock, but when that record and the video for ‘Looks That Kill’ came out the thought of being in a band went from an idea and a dream to a tunnel-fucking-vision conquest. I was committed and nothing was stopping me.”
The record I’ve played more than any other is…
“That’s a 4-way toss-up between, Def Leppard’s Pyromania, AC/DC’s Highway To Hell, Alice in Chains Facelift, and Deftones Around the Fur- although Pyromania probably wins. It’s one of those records that can just rotate non-stop, every track is stellar, and the production still holds up today. That record was always on at parties (and still finds it’s way onto the party playlist these days!) and is just bad-ass!”
